Firefox 3.5 was released today! I use both Safari and Firefox regularly. I downloaded the newest version of Firefox today, and I was quite surprised to see it beat out Safari in javascript performance! I ran the sunspider javascript test on both browsers, and to my surprise, it beat Safari! Safari finished the test in 1349.6ms. Firefox finished the test in 1304.8ms. Very impressive, Mozilla! Unfortunately, Firefox does still choke on the Acid3 test. In any case, it’s great to see these browser wars produce the fastest and most efficient web browsers we have ever seen, that is, of course, unless you’re using Opera (bleh), which we took a look at a couple weeks ago… I’m happy to see Firefox perform so well – go download it now!

Are you serious???
During one of my flights earlier this week, I was browsing SkyMall to see what sorts of new useless, overpriced goodies I could buy for myself! Boy was I delighted to see the “NeckPro Traction Device.” I’ve had some neck pain before. I’m sure we all have. If you need a solution to this pain, look no further than SkyMall’s noose “easy-to-use over-the-door cervical traction device!” Thanks to SkyMall, we no longer have to worry about the mechanics of constructing a suicide device breaking “the muscle spasm / neck pain cycle.” Just look at the guy in the picture… Hilarious…

Look... Closer...
Earlier today I was riding the MBTA Commuter Rail today from Framingham into Boston, getting some work done, checking out tethering on my new iPhone 3GS. I was toiling away diligently, only to be distracted by large man who sat in front of me. I noticed he had quite a large FUPA. However, the situation became slightly more interesting to me when I noticed that because he was wearing sweatpants, his FUPA gave way to some indecent exposure! I decided to check out the new iPhone camera and secretly snap a pick.

As you can see from the closer look, he’s showing me a bit more than I wanted to see! It’s a shame the iPhone camera isn’t slightly better. If you still don’t know what i’m talking about, here’s a hint.

ultrasn0w is here! Time to unlock that iPhone 3G! The process is extremely simple.
- Update your iPhone 3G to OS 3.0
- Use PwnageTool to Jailbreak it and install Cydia
- Add repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia
- Install ultrasn0w
- Reboot
Enjoy! If you are a T-Mobile USA user, be sure to turn off 3G before updating!

Done any traveling over the past year or so? If so, you may have seen little blue kiosks near security at some major airports. These clear lanes offered a way for “pre-screened” customers to get priority boarding. The product was flawed from the start. As a platinum member, Marriott gave me a year of free Clear access in 2008 so I was able to try it out. I got my fingerprints and retina scanned, got a little card, and that let me skip the airport security line. The problem with this product is that it was targeted at frequent fliers. Frequent fliers already have access to priority security lines. Was Clear faster? Sure. Was it a lot faster? Nope. It allowed me to shave ten minutes off my commute. When the time came to pay the $140 (actually i think they raised their prices and it might have recently been more), I decided not to pay. Clearly (no pun intended), most of the other frequent fliers made the same choice. Bye bye, Clear. You will be missed. Good riddance.

The iPhone Dev Team has been hard at work since the release of the iPhone / iPod Touch 3.0 software update. The jailbreak for all devices except the iPod Touch 2G was released yesterday. Today redsn0w, the iPod Touch 2G jailbreak, was released! Now we’re just waiting for ultrasn0w, the iPhone 3G OS 3.0 unlock. Thanks, Dev Team!

There were a lot of great games announced this past year’s E3, but one of the games I was most excited about really didn’t get that much press. That game is Modnation Racers for the PS3. To get an idea about this game, picture the cute characters and addicting gameplay of Mario Kart. Then cross that with the complete customizability of LittleBigPlanet. You get Modnation Racers. They showed a demo (video after the break), and the track creator really looks amazing. You get a blank slate of land resembling the start of a sim city. Then you adjust the terrain, water levels, etc. Then you use the track tool to make whatever kind of wacky track you want. Afterwards, you customize it with scenery. It looked INCREDIBLY deep, and I was very impressed. You can also customize your characters. There will be a large social networking component to the game so we can all share tracks with each other. As far as gameplay, it really reminds me of old Mario Kart. The newer versions of Mario Kart have a cheapened feel so that anyone can play, but the real challenge is gone. Plus, I HATE how if you’re in last place, they make your kart go much faster, just to even out the game. Modnation Racers really looks like one to watch.

Thanks, Dev Team! The jailbreak for the iPhone 3G OS 3.0 is now out. Go get the goodness here! Note: I’m not yet upgrading my iPhone 3G. I’m upgrading to the iPhone 3G S so this phone will be given to my brother, a T-Mobile user. For it to work on T-Mobile, we need the unlock (ultrasn0w) to be released. Word is that this will be released in the very near future! I will detail the whole unlocking process here on the site when it’s released.

If you ordered an iPhone 3G S right after the keynote, like I did, chances are it has already shipped. Many of the UPS tracking numbers said to expect delivery on June 17, a full two days before the expected release date of June 19. Don’t get your hopes up, though! Logging into UPS.com this morning shows the above pic. Looks like Apple is putting a hold on delivery of these phones until the 19th.
